About

Crescent Swan is an independent micro-publishing house, founded in 2020. If you’re wondering what micro-publisher means, it operates on a much smaller scale than your run-of-the-mill, and even indie, publishing house. In this instance, it's made up of just one person… Me!

Crescent Swan came about on something of a whim. Unable to find an agent for my debut novel, The Briarmen, I turned to self-publishing. Only, I wanted my book to look and feel as professional as possible. So I taught myself everything I could about publishing and book production, and then set up my own imprint through which to release my novel. Despite next to no marketing budget, The Briarmen went on to be received very well (even becoming a #1 Amazon UK bestseller), finding a much larger readership than I had anticipated.

In 2022, I decided to try my hand at publishing other writers. For this to be sustainable on such a small scale, I adopted a digital-first model, focused on selling eBooks, with paperbacks available through print-on-demand, rather than print runs. A call for submissions led to me discovering what would become the second novel published by Crescent Swan: Days of Long Shadows by Tim Franks. I spent the next year working closely with Tim to bring his book into the world.

While Crescent Swan remains a part-time passion project first and foremost, I aim to bring a professional standard to everything I publish. I work with qualified editors and professional cover artists to bring out books that are not only captivating on the inside, but beautiful on the outside. Whether Crescent Swan will ever be anything more than a passion project, I can't say. For now, the next novels I plan to release will be my own. But in the long term, I hope to work closely with more writers in bringing their stories to life.
